Beverly LeVack Oren, age 92, of Friendswood, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Beverly was born in San Antonio August 21, 1928. Her mother, Winnie Hammon worked very hard during the depression era and Beverly stayed with trusted acquaintances-all who became family. This was a hallmark in her young life. This led to Beverly's ability to adopt people into her life and hold them close. This also developed her keen sense of the importance of the nuclear family and motivated her to draw her wider family in close.

Beverly loved the great outdoors and incorporated camping into family vacations. Traveling from coast to coast, she enjoyed God's beauty and was able to pitch a tent in record time, then cook a amazing meal on a camp stove. Her home was a gathering place for a family, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, new and old. She was a great hostess and had a natural knack for making the task of feeding and entertaining large groups look easy. Beverly considered the Sunday meal of roast, potatoes and carrots to be an important follow up event after church.

During WWII Beverly lived in San Antonio and was asked to go on a blind date. She was 16. That date introduced her to Walter Douglas Oren, who was from Seattle. The story is told that as Doug boarded the train to ship out, Bev shouted, "DO YOU LOVE ME?" He shouted back, "I WILL DROP YOU A LINE!" They were married the following January 26, 1946 and remained so, 11 days shy of their 70th anniversary.

Bev and Doug had 6 children and behind their encompassing faith, family was the most important thing in their lives. Doug loved to travel-so they traveled extensively throughout the world. However, Beverly would have rather stayed home with her grandchildren. Even with that preference, she packed her bags and dutifully hit the road with Doug, time and time again and sometimes for months! You might think that she just follow in Doug's footsteps, however, she was very much an independent women with a backbone, lots of determination and an unmatched self-discipline. She was a VERY modern women.

Beverly wanted a college education and made that known early in her marriage. She registered Dick for school and immediately began her education. She graduated from University of Houston with the exact number of hours required to earn her degree, not to mention making the deans list. After graduating in 1965 she began her career in HISD. After recovering from a horrific accident, she went on earn her Master's and began working on a doctorate degree. She retired in 1996. Her most cherished teaching position was at Alcott Elementary where each of her children attended.

Bev was an avid reader and enjoyed a wide range of topics, her favorite being Scripture, which she knew well. She lived her life with the Lord's words guiding her all the way-even until death. She also loved the English language and used her quick wit and humor on the unsuspecting.

Beverly leaves daughters Candy (Mike) Baughman, Nancy (Bob) Wilson, sons Ben, John (Elise) and Richard (Marleine) Oren, all in the Houston Area. Sisters Joan (Bob) Kennedy of Nacogdoches, and Marta (John) Motto of San Diego. Brothers-in-Law Dick (Marie) Oren and Wayne Hakola both of Seattle. She has 15 grandchildren, 25 great grands and 1 great great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by Doug and her eldest son Michael, whom she loved dearly. Also her dear brother and wife Jim and Leslie LeVack.

She also leaves behind a plethora of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear, dear friends that shared a mutual love. Bev loved you all, so very much, but be assured she is where she wants to be, at her Savior's side.
