Billie Jean Sandefer, 73, of La Porte, Texas, passed away on June 6, 2026. Born in Pasadena, Texas, on September 25, 1952, she was the daughter of William Farmer and Barbara Prater. Billie Jean devoted 54 years of marriage to her husband, Larry Sandefer, and brought a steady, caring presence to all who knew her. She worked as an office manager for Dr. Hunter, OB-GYN, serving with the kind of quiet reliability that makes a workplace feel like it’s in good hands.
Known to her family as Meme, she had a gift for making people feel welcomed and looked after—often before they even realized what they needed. She loved her teams with joyful commitment, cheering on the Astros, Texans, and Rockets with the kind of enthusiasm that made every game feel personal and every win worth celebrating.
Meme was also an amazing cook and baker, skills she learned young from the many hours spent with her grandmother. In her home, hospitality came with something sweet—because it was nearly impossible to stop by without being offered baked goods or treats. Around the holidays, that generosity only grew. If you planned to visit, you already knew the rules: leave your diet in the car and wear something with an elastic waistband.
And when it came to Christmas, Meme loved it above all else. Once Thanksgiving ended, it was “Game On,” and she brought the season to life with delightful determination—meticulously shaping the warmth indoors while making sure the outside had enough lights that even astronauts on the space station could use it as a landmark. Her love showed up in these traditions: in the effort, in the laughter, and in the way she made celebrations feel brighter simply by being at the center of them.
Meme was preceded in death by her father, William Farmer, and her mother, Barbara Prater.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Sandefer; children, Steven Sandefer and his wife, Tonya, Nathan Sandefer, and Nikki Jackson; grandchildren, Chris Dunning and his wife, Alisha, Shelby Lawrance and her husband, Jerry, Steven Sandefer and his wife, Ashley, Ashley Durrett and Christopher Durrett; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Madison, Aaden, Keagan, Casen, Holden, Emersyn, Jaxtyn, Sadie, Beau, Savannah, Romeo, and William; and siblings, Gary Farmer, Terry Farmer and his wife, Gloria, Donna Kay Moffit, and Robert Farmer.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a celebration of life to start at 2:00 pm and a committal to follow. All services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, Texas.
