Robert “Bob” Jon Montgomery went home to be with the Lord at the age of 81 on February 29, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Bob was born on February 8, 1935 and raised in Preston, Kansas. He was married to Margaret C. Montgomery for 47 amazing and blessed years. Bob made his mark on the world as an attorney, owning a private practice for 18 years and then became an Assistant County Attorney working for Harris County.
“Bob” was a Kansas transplant who adored Texas but never lost his love for the Kansas wheat fields, the beautiful sunflowers, wide open skies, and gorgeous sunsets. He was a chemist, a lawyer, a reader of history, and a lover of gardening. He enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and would try to talk to anybody who had a Kansas license plate. His dog, Sadie, was a constant companion and was always at his heels. He enjoyed discussing the law and gave his clients the truth and represented them with honesty and integrity. He was the same person in a suit as he was in a pair of overalls and he never met a stranger. Bob loved spending time with his family, pouring wisdom into each one of them, and telling stories that only “Bob” could tell. All of those who knew him were familiar with his funny “Bob-isms” that would always make you laugh because it was just Bob being “Bob.” He lived his life with humor and a caring spirit for others. He left a mark on everyone he met and all of us are richer because of it.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Bud” and Ena Montgomery; brother, Gene Montgomery; grandson, Chris Gracie; and brother-in-law, Calvin Glenn.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret; sister, Charlene Glenn; daughters Kathy Montgomery, Linda and her husband, James Skripka, Sandra and Julie Montgomery; sons Monte and Lance and his wife, Amy Montgomery; grandchildren Steven, Kevin, Charlie, Jessica, Jon, Becky, Tim, Cody, Cade, and Kale Rae; and great-grandchildren Ashton, Skylar, Zachary, Emma, Marissa, Madison, Isiah, Abby, Brittany, Tristan, and Kirstan.
A visitation and funeral, followed by a reception, will be held March 4, 2016 at Forest Park East Funeral Home, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway, in Webster, Texas. The visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the service beginning at noon. Attire is comfortable, even camo is acceptable…Bob wouldn’t have had it any other way!
