Carl “CJ” James Guinn, 49, of League City, Tx, went to be with his Lord Saturday, March 2, 2024. CJ was born on September 15, 1974, in Houston, Tx, to Jesse and Iris Guinn. He was a fifth generation Texan and an enthusiastic Houston Astros fan.
CJ graduated from Pearland High School, Pearland, Tx. He continued his education at Columbia Southern University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Administration and Information technology. In 1992, he began his impressive career when an opportunity arose to work alongside his father at Lynx Information Systems, in Houston, Tx. Over the years, CJ received many additional certifications and credentials, including Microsoft and Cisco design professional certifications.
As soon as CJ could hold a fishing rod, you would find him sitting on a dock with his feet and rod dangling in the water. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed sailing, boating, fishing, hunting, cookouts, and experiencing all that the great outdoors offered. CJ was the life of the party, and welcomed friends and family with hugs, laughter, and endless hospitality. CJ’s house was always open to all.
CJ met his wife, Ruby Guinn, in September of 2004. They fell deeply in love and were married September 17, 2005. They made their home in Seabrook, Tx and became members of First Baptist Church, Seabrook, in 2007 where they have remained members under the spiritual leadership of senior pastor, Rob Purdy, for the past 18 years.
CJ and Ruby have two precious daughters, Adrianna Estelle and Daisy Grace. CJ took immense pride in supporting his family and being a dad to his two daughters. He worked tirelessly to provide for them. Anything Ruby and the girl’s heart’s desired, he made sure they received. CJ loved being a husband and a daddy.
CJ was a devout Christian who had a strong relationship with his Savior. He spent his life with the desire to increase God’s kingdom. He humbly served in many capacities, and always walked in faith, even during life’s most challenging times.
It was important to CJ for his girls to be raised in the church, getting to know Jesus. When the girls decided to accept Christ as their Savior, CJ had the great honor of participating in baptizing each of his daughters.
CJ most recently worked as a network services manager of US infrastructure and Operations at Covestro, Baytown. Over the years, CJ held various leadership positions at Marathon Oil, Entergy XXI, Diamond Offshore Drilling, Cisco TAC, and Bayer Material Science. He was very proud of his Kilgore, Texas oilfield background.
As a project manager, he traveled the world, spearheading projects in Australia, Bering Sea, Brazil, Dubai, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Scotland, and Singapore, to name a few.
A co-worker described him as a hard-working, hard-driven individual who would not rest until he figured every detail and a solution. CJ’s incredible work ethic, notable skill set, and remarkable accomplishments set precedents for future global innovations.
CJ is preceded in death by his father; Jesse Guinn, grandparents; Ira and Estelle Hughes, and Buford and Lorena Guinn.
