Born in Rice, Minnesota, Sally was one of nine children, the second youngest. Growing up on a farm taught her the value of hard work, faith, and family—qualities that shaped her entire life.
Sally met Bob at age 17. They lived in neighboring small towns—Bowlus and Royalton, Minnesota—and married on August 8, 1953. Military and civilian life later brought them to Texas, where they raised their five children together.
Sally’s greatest joy was being a mother. She poured her heart into raising her family, teaching them faith, home life, responsibility, and kindness. Every camping trip felt like home because of her thoughtful touches and love for creating lasting memories. She instilled the importance of helping others, showing respect, and leading with love—lessons that continue to guide her children today.
A gifted cook, Sally could make any meal feel special. Her family especially loved her German dishes, lovingly prepared from family recipes. She was best known for her homemade pies, requested far and wide and remembered as the best anyone ever tasted. She also had her own vegetable garden, filling the kitchen with fresh, homegrown produce. She could never resist corn on the cob, often making a whole meal of it—a simple pleasure that reminded her of her farm roots. She also delighted family and friends by playing the accordion, filling the room with music, laughter, and warmth.
Together, Sally and Bob built five homes, and she took great pride in their craftsmanship. She didn’t need a ruler—she could spot an eighth of an inch off just by eye. A perfectionist by nature, she gave her all to everything she did.
Sally loved travel and adventure. Whether on family road trips, exploring across the U.S., or living in Germany for several years with Bob, she embraced every experience with enthusiasm. No matter where she went, she always found a church and never missed Mass on Sundays. Her faith was a quiet, constant strength throughout her life.
She was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary at Post 490, serving in multiple offices and putting her heart into the organization. She cherished her monthly poker gatherings with friends, filled with laughter, stories, and fellowship.
After a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Sally has gone to join her beloved husband of 72 years in eternal peace.
She is survived by her children: Jeff Nouis and wife Marcia, Janet Nouis Lively and husband Mike, Craig Nouis and wife Kathy, Robert Nouis Jr., and forever daughter-in-law Grisell Nouis. Her grandchildren include Kevin Lively and wife Courtney, Ryan Strahan, David Nouis, Christopher Nouis and wife Vismaya, and Erik Nouis and wife Lauren. Great-grandchildren include James Nouis, Kevin (KJ) Lively Jr., Korie Lively, and Parker Nouis, and she is also survived by her sister Grace Barthelemy of Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her son James Nouis and siblings Clarence, Erwin, Robert, and Roman Aschenbrener, Erma Merenda, Valeria Waytashek, and LaVerne Kowalczyk.
Sally’s life was one of love, devotion, and faith—she worked hard, laughed often, and always found joy in the simple things. Her love and example will continue to live on in all.
