On October 24, 2023, Charlcie Laws went to be with the Lord at age 91 from complications due to atrial fibrillation. Charlcie was born on December 21, 1931, to James and Jocie McCaleb in Reagan, TX. After graduating from Marlin High School in 1949, Charlcie attended a business college and went on to work for an abstract company for two years before becoming a legal secretary. During that time, she fell in love with Merle Laws, and they wed in 1950, going on to have four children, James, Barry, Burt and Donald.
After her first child, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful “stay at home mom”. Charlcie was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and friends. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She always put other’s first and her heart was big as Texas. Charlcie excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of our family filling the home with warmth and kindness.
Charlcie was a long-standing member of University Baptist Church and played hand bells with the choir. She was also passionate about volunteering. She volunteered in the church financial office and delivered Meals on Wheels to the elderly in the Clear Lake area for more than 24 years. She loved reading, solving crossword puzzles and would tell you a joke every time you met.
Charlcie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sisters, Gladys Emmons and Glenda Rhea. She is survived by her four children, stepson Wayne Laws, sister Nona Tarver, brothers Bill and James McCaleb as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family requests that donations be made to the National Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. A visitation for Charlcie will be held Monday, October 30, 2023, at 9:00 AM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598 with funeral service immediately following at 10:00 AM.
