Charlene Greer Cumby, age 93, passed away peacefully February 29, 2020 due to kidney failure. She was born October 6, 1926 in Dripping Springs, TX, to Charlie Hyde and Bertha Shahan Greer. She married her love, James Oswald Cumby, in October of 1946; he preceded her in death in 1983.
Charlene loved her family, always reminding her sons and grandchildren that she loved them “around the world and back again”. She loved music and singing along with the choir from her “regular” spot in the congregation at Sagemont Church.
She loved her nursing career, which covered more than three decades of service in the Operating Room of Memorial SE Hospital and other day surgery facilities in the area.
Her life is an example of Ephesians 4:32 “… be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.”
Charlene is survived by her loving family: two sons and their wives Jerry and Shirley Cumby, and Robby and Dana Cumby; grandchildren Joshua, Jonathan, Kendall, Jameson, James, Jacob and Justin and ‘bonus grandchildren’ Danielle, Deidra, Janney and Chelsey; plus a blossoming group of great grandchildren – 13 so far – along with nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Charlene will be laid to rest next to her husband James in Forest Park East Cemetery.
