In His infinite wisdom and grace, Almighty God reached down from Heaven and whispered ever so quietly to one of his children these words: “Come with me my daughter for it’s time to go home” and so it was that on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 God closed the eyes of our beloved Christine.
Christine Reyes Camacho was born July 1, 1959 in Pasadena, Texas to Onecimo and Cecilia Reyes. She was a 1978 graduate of South Houston High School. She truly enjoyed life to the fullest through simple pleasures. Her interest included: being with family, being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren and being an Avon representative. She devoted most of her time and energy to her fellowship at The Catholic Charismatic Church.
Christine served in the public service sector for a total of forty-three years. For the past thirty-three years, Christine worked for the United States Coast Guard, National Maritime Center, and Houston Detachment. In her role with the Coast Guard, Christine assisted thousands of Mariners obtain their Coast Guard-Issued Merchant Mariner Credentials. Using these credentials, Mariners serve in various roles in the maritime industry in the local community, nationally, and around the world. Rooted deep in Coast Guard tradition and from all the Coast Guard personnel who served with Christine over the past thirty-three years, “fair winds and following seas”, Shipmate. God Bless.
Chris could often be seen sneaking around the office sprinkling Holy Water to bless the office and/or employee workspaces in time of need. Notorious for decorating her workspace for the holidays. Known as the “Avon” lady amongst all the ladies in the office. Just because and for VIP visits, Chris would treat the staff with the best breakfast tacos in the city from a local joint called Cherry Top Bakery.
Christine began serving at the Catholic Charismatic Center in 2004. She served in various areas of ministry, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Prayer Ministry, Lay Associate to Companions of the Cross, but gave of her time and her heart to the children in the CCE/Children’s Ministry. Her heart was for children, she took so much upon herself to be sure each of the CCE children was counted. Everyone knows just how much she loved her children and beloved grandchildren but she also cared for each child that was in the CCE program. If there were anything that they needed from snacks to certificates she literally ‘ran’ around to find and fill that need. She was the lady in the background that worked with the teachers to line up the decorations for each Sacramental celebration, and each little gift bag for every student. Often you would find her at her desk with a coffee or soft drink working on some needed schedule, retreat, children’s activity or working on student records as well as getting her Avon orders out to us. She was always in a hurry because she had to get to an event for one of her ‘grand-babies as she called them. Christine for the most part desired to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the community through her service to the Lord. She loved seeing how the Holy Spirit was working in the church here at the Center and being a part of the movement. Everyone seemed to know her, and everyone loved her and there is no doubt her presence will be missed greatly by all at the CCC.
She is survived by her parents and three siblings: Onecimo Reyes III, Sylvia Reyes Gaitan and Elizabeth Reyes Rodriguez. Children include: Manuel Martinez, Marcelina Martinez and Dagoverto Camacho. Daughter-in-law: Tyann Martinez. Grandchildren: Jordan Flowers, Makayla Flowers, Jazzy Flowers, Aaliyah Flowers, Elijah Flowers, Miliyanna Martinez and Malachi Martinez.
