

Born in Flint, Michigan on April 18, 1944, Curt was the son of Nora (Divine) and Robert Joseph King. His early years were spent in Germany and Alaska before settling in Killeen, Texas. Curt attended Rancier Junior High and Killeen High School, later earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University in 1967 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston – Clear Lake in 1981.
Curt’s lifelong commitment to service included two years as an active-duty Army Infantry Soldier, where he served as a Platoon Commander in the First Cavalry and as an advisor to the Army of South Vietnam. He completed Ranger School, Officer Infantry Course, and Airborne Jump School. Curt continued his military career in the Texas Army National Guard and Army Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He worked for several process control instrumentation companies and was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, later serving as Scoutmaster for his son’s troop. Curt had a passion for history, travel, and collecting hats and pins from around the world. He enjoyed card games, especially Bridge, and was an avid reader and researcher of historical literature.
Curt loved dogs throughout his life, and is survived by his rescue dog, Ginger. He is also remembered for his fondness for cookies, a trait celebrated by his family throughout his life.
Curt is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Karen Jayne (McLennan) King.; sons Craig Robert King (Cristi Walters) and Kenneth Robert King (Whitney Monroe); grandsons Kel Eric Lane King and Bear Walter Robert King; granddaughter Ashton Olivia Marchand (Nathan Skipp); and great-granddaughter Logan Holly Faire Skipp.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guide Dogs of Texas (guidedogsoftexas.org) and Three Little Pitties Rescue (threelittlepittiesrescue.org) in Curt’s memory.
Burial will be at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 12:45 pm and a Celebration of Life will be at Clear Lake Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 11:00 am.
