

Darrell Clement passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023. He was born December 5,1930 in McAlester,Oklahoma. Darrell was a loving husband, father, and Pawpaw. Darrell was in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War. He then moved back to McAlester and attended Oklahoma University, where he graduated with an aerospace engineering degree in 1957. He then married Sonya Clement and they together had three children Clint, Katy, and Scott.
In 1960, he began his career at Rocketdyne in Neosho, Missouri where he helped design the Saturn Five engine for the Apollo 11. He then moved his family to Picayune, Mississippi where he continued testing rocket engines for Nasa. In 1972, he moved his family to Clear Lake City and began working with Rockwell Corporation, Raytheon Technologies and later with Fluor Ocean services in their engineering department. He then finished his career at NASA,working on the safety committee for the space shuttle.
Darrell's career included coaching his sons in baseball, being a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, and volunteering at McWhirter elementary helping the students who had difficulty with reading and math. He was always involved with the church, volunteering as a Sunday school teacher, becoming a deacon and an elder, and instilling his love of Christ to his wife and children.
Darrell is now reunited with his wife Sonya, his son Clint, his parents, and numerous friends and family members who went before him. If you would like to honor Darrell, go out and have a hamburger or oysters as these were two of his favorite foods. Say a toast and end it with Boomer Sooner!
