My sincere condolences to all the family,may God almighty fill the void that you've experienced because of Don leaving this life.
I am grateful for his love for teaching God'sWORD. IN 1958 , he was a part of the Lord's Church that rented a small house in Corpus Christi 's  west side to teach God's word with the Jule Miller film strips. I was 14 years old at that time, he with others planted and 6 yrs later, I was baptized. 
As the years passed I grew in God's word and served as a deacon and later an elder in God's Vinyard till my wife passed in 2012.
To God be the glory for Don's love for lost souls.

Here are the ones I've sent to David
My dad taught me to appreciate God's creation.  When I was very young we would lie in the grass at night in the front yard and look up into the heavens at the stars and he taught me the constellations. 

Dad taught Junior High Texas history for many years.   He had a History Club and would take them on History club trips to hunt for arrowheads.  They loved it and so did we

Dad also taught Junior High Shop.  He always enjoyed working with wood.  He built a really nice, big sewing table for Mom that she used for years and years, made to Mom's specifications.  

Dad always enjoyed working the land.  We always had a few acres somewhere, along a river usually, where we would go on weekends.  Mom would cook Chili in a kettle pot over a campfire,  Dad and us kids would work on clearing the area.  I would sneak off and sit on the riverbank and enjoy the view, soaking in the beauty of God's creation. 

When I was maybe about 7 Dad took me duck hunting.  He was showing me how to aim the shotgun and when I pulled the trigger it kicked back and hit him in the mouth!  


Dad always made sure we were involved in church.

He also made sure our doors were open to our friends. 

For years he told us bedtime stories, that he made up as he went, about a boy and his dog.   We kids loved that time with him

When we were kids dad took us to the beach and loaded our trunk with sand to put in the yard for a sand box.  He was always looking for us to have an opportunity for good,  clean fun.

Dad bought a fur jacket for me when I was in high school. It was so pretty and so special to me. I wore it for years,  until I wore it out.

A good part of my childhood, I awoke to the sound of my dad singing in the kitchen. He always got up before the sun because the man loved mornings. New possibility. A fresh chance.

Of course, as a surly teenager, his singing grated on me. He'd stomp around in his dress shoes on the kitchen floor, sometimes toasting waffles for us, and sometimes boiling chicken backs for the dog (yes, you read that right lol). When he wasn't singing, he'd chatter to the dog in high, baby-talk tones. Amid this cheery bustle, Kevin and I would drag ourselves out of bed, all sour, and get ready for school. 

Then right before the bus came, Daddy would pull us into a tight huddle in the living room and pray over us. I didn't like it. It was embarrassing, and it sometimes made me late, and we were breathing toothpaste-tinged breakfast breath all over each other. His prayers varied a little every day, but he always prayed this line: "God, help my kids to have good friends."

Good friends. I didn't think about it much at the time, but now that I've lived some life and have teenagers of my own, I'm stunned by the wisdom in that prayer. God heard and answered it for me: good friends have sustained and anchored me through some very stormy seasons. You know who are, because you're here right now--a living answer my daddy's daily prayer.

I like to think there's morning time in Heaven, and right now my dad is singing and chatting with some dog and planning some wild adventure.
