Dong Ok Choe

Our sister in Christ, Dong Ok Choe, age 80 of Clear Lake City, Texas, was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Dong was born in Seoul, South Korea, on June 1, 1946, to Jong Han Oh and Chang Sook Kim. She graduated from the University of Korea in Seoul in 1968 with a degree in English Literature and immigrated to the US 58 years ago to marry her husband, Chul Young. Together, they raised two daughters, Caroline and Rachel. She approached life with tenacity and a strong personality, her sharp wit cutting through pretense in an instant. She was a force of action, meeting each day with spirited energy and determination, whether tending to family, tackling challenges, or speaking her mind with characteristic directness.

A member of Clear Lake Presbyterian Church for over 45 years, Dong Ok devoted her beautiful voice and talent to the church choir, sharing her gift with passion and unwavering commitment to her faith community.

Beyond her years devoted to family, Dong brought her sharp intellect and determination to work as a computer programmer for aerospace industry contractors after earning her Data Science degree from San Jacinto College. She found joy tending her garden with meticulous care and singing while concocting "Korean creations" in the kitchen, ensuring her husband ate well and stayed active. She enjoyed hiking and accompanying Chul Young to play golf—always walking the course rather than riding in a cart, approaching fitness with her characteristic determination.

Dong Ok was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Chul Y. Choe; daughters Caroline Champion and Rachel Hill and her husband Jim Hill; and, grandchildren Gabby Champion, a senior at Texas A&M, Jadon Hill of Bellaire High School, and Matthew Hill, an 8th grader at Trafton Academy; three sisters; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:30 am at Clear Lake Presbyterian Church, 1511 El Dorado Blvd, Houston, Texas.

Dong's family extends deepest gratitude to family and friends near and far for their care, concern, and many calls. Your love and prayers continue to lift us during this difficult time.

REMEMBER ME in your heart, your thoughts and in your memories. Remember the times we loved and the times we fought, the times we laughed and the times we cried, the times we teased and the times we shared. For if you think of me, I will not have died. I have only gone with Jesus.
