Doris Beatrice Toliver

Born on August 21, 1928 in Bastrop County, Doris lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, service to others, and kindness. She was known for her positive attitude, gentle spirit, and beautiful, authentic smile that brightened the lives of all who knew her. Her love for children was evident throughout her life and was reflected in both her personal and volunteer activities.

For most of her life, Doris called the Austin area home, where she was a devoted member of Skyview Baptist Church. There, she faithfully served her church as a Sunday School teacher and nursery volunteer, sang in the choir, and found great joy in fellowship with her church family. She was a devoted member of the Skyview Baptist Kitchen Tub Band, a music ministry that visited nursing homes and care facilities, sharing joy and encouragement with residents through song and laughter.

Later in life, she moved to League City to be closer to family. She became a dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church where she continued to worship, serve in the nursery, and share her faith. The relationships she built in both church communities were a source of great joy throughout her life.

She treasured her years with her husband, Hoyet, and especially enjoyed traveling with him to bluegrass music festivals. She also loved playing cards and sharing laughter and companionship with family and friends.

Professionally, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Austin Independent School District, and in her retirement years volunteered in the library at Ralph Parr Elementary in League City, where she enjoyed helping students and encouraging a love of reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyet Toliver; her four sons, Pat, Michael, Dale, and Glenn, her parents, Etta and Jesse Bennight, and all but one of her siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Toliver-Kinsky and her family; her brother, Joe Bennight; eight grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Her family will remember her not only for her love and devotion, but also for the strength she displayed through every season of life. She taught by example that faith can sustain us, love can overcome sorrow, and a grateful heart can bring light to others even in difficult times.

A visitation will be held on the first of August, 2026 at 9:00 am, with the funeral service at 10:00 am and burial following at 11:00 am. All services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas.

The family extends their gratitude to the caregivers at Gentiva Hospice and The Cottages at Clear Lake Assisted Living Facility for their compassionate care and support. A particularly heartfelt thank you is extended to the family members and dear friends who made the effort to visit, send letters, call, play cards, pray, and spend precious moments with her. These acts of love brought her great happiness and ensured that she felt cherished and surrounded by those who cared for her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church in League City, Texas or a charity of your choice.
