Dorothy was born and raised in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She met her future husband Thomas at a roller skating rink near Orangeburg while he was stationed at North Air Force base nearby. It was love at first sight and they were married two weeks later! When she came on to Texas everyone wanted to hear her talk because of her southern accent. She made friends readily and was a friend to all. The quote in her 1952 High School Year Book next to her picture was: “If you want the world to be a friendly place, then you must show it a friendly face.” She certainly did that throughout her life. She was always loving and supporting to her family, in their good times and bad, ready to comfort and encourage. She spent many years as a caretaker of children at her home, helping to love and raise them. She loved her church family and participated actively in Pasadena Boulevard and Golden Acres United Methodist Churches. After moving to Huntsville she joined First United Methodist Church, Huntsville. She was very active with all her friends at Creekside Assisted Living Center, and was cherished by the residents and staff alike. She will be greatly missed by all of them and her family.
Funeral service will be held at Forest Park East on the Gulf Freeway in League City, Texas on Friday, April 14 at 12:30pm. Visitation will be from 10:30-12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hope Community United Methodist Church (formerly Golden Acres), 2838 Lily St., Pasadena, TX 77053.
