Dr. Edward Victor Bravenec, 87, of Seabrook, Texas passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018, at a Clear Lake City, Texas hospital. In honoring his wishes to be cremated, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Fwy. Webster, Texas.
Edward was born in Temple, Texas, on August 25, 1930, to Edward Charles and Victoria (Kotrla) Bravenec. He was a 1948 graduate of Temple High School. After a four year stint in the US Air Force, he attended and graduated from Texas Western College of the University of Texas in El Paso in 1956 majoring in Metallurgical Engineering. He earned a Master of Industrial Engineering from the University of Houston in 1961, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Metallurgy from Pacific Western University in 1979.
Edward began his career with the Silver Bell Mine in Arizona and the Santa Fe Railroad in New Mexico and Arizona. He moved to Pasadena, Texas, and continued his career with Eastern States Petroleum as a corrosion engineer, then went to Hughes Tools as a research engineer. He worked for ARMCO Steel as a supervising engineer for 27 years, and then began a 28 year association with Anderson and Associates, Inc. as Vice President of Engineering and Director. He was recognized as a Metallurgical Failure Analysis Expert.
Edward was a Master member of the Grand Lodge of Texas Masons. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau, Sigma Gamma Epsilon and AIME, and he served as president of ASM International, Houston Chapter.
Using his knowledge of metals, he created beautiful sculptures. He collected and restored antique furniture and was always ready for a trip to a garage sale or flea market. Edward was an avid sports fan and loved the Houston Astros and Rockets. As a natural athlete, he believed in physical fitness and played baseball, softball, golf and boxed. He was proud of his Czech heritage and always enjoyed a good pork sausage and poppy seed kolache.
On June 7, 1956, he married Aileen Doris Titsworth in San Marcos, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2010. He was also preceded by his parents, and his sister, Gladys Howard, and his nephews, Lt. Col. Raymond Edward Roessler and Jimmy Titsworth.
Edward is survived by a son, David Edward Bravenec and his wife, Solvej Schou, of Pasadena, California, as well as by his brother, Anton Bravenec and wife, Merlene of Temple, Texas and his sister, Nelda Roessler and husband, Buddy, of Blanco, Texas; a brother-in-law, Harvey Titsworth and wife Kathy of Starbuck, Minnesota, his favorite niece, Jeana Bakke, and his faithful friend, Alfred Briones and wife Diane, plus eight nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice.
A memorial service for Edward will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.
