Ed Miller was in the System Engineering Department at Ford Aerospace as was I from the Apollo, Soyuz, and Skylab programs to Space Transportation System. It was traditional to celebrate birthdays with cake and a round of “Happy Birthday” once a month for those having one that month. The curious thing was that Ed had two birthdays that he celebrated months apart. Ed grew up at an orphanage near Ft. Worth Texas. Ed was very young when he arrived at the orphanage and didn’t know his birth date nor did is sister. The court-house where Ed’s birth certificate was kept had burned down and all records lost. The staff assigned a birthday to him which he celebrated thereafter. Many years later, a relative was able to recall his actual birth date so he celebrate both dates. Quite the storyteller, Ed related that at the orphanage they served exactly the same meal on a particular day of the week. For example, on Thursdays it would be kidney beans and cinnamon rolls. Ed confessed it was difficult for him to eat one without the other. He said one of the girls once submitted their menu as homework for a home economics class as a weekly meal preparation. She got an A since it was quite nutritious but the teacher noted that it was very unusual. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Ed. - J. Fred King

Roslyn, please accept my most sincere condolences for the loss of Ed. we worked together since graduation for many years. He was a great friend and truly the finest example of a good Christian. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and work ethic. At one time Ed helped me rewrite a contract that saved many jobs at Ford Aero after we lost our prime contract. So many of us are thankful and better to have known him. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. God Bless. Don Purdum
