Elinor was born on July 10, 1940, in Angleton, Texas, to Wilmath Bessie Walker McCain and William Wayne McCain. She grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas, and later made her home in Seabrook and Pasadena, where she spent most of her life.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a woman of deep faith. Elinor loved God, cherished her family, and took great pride in her career in the law. She was a lawyer and served as Municipal Judge in Seabrook, Texas, and later the State Commission for Judicial Conduct. She was actively involved in the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Bay Area Turning Point, and faithfully served on committees at Nassau Bay Baptist Church and University Baptist Church and with many other local organizations.
Elinor attended East Texas Baptist College and earned her bachelor’s degree from University of Houston. She then went on to earn her law degree from the University of Houston, Bates College of Law, studying while her young daughter napped.
She was loyal, loved fiercely, laughed heartily, and was wonderfully feisty — a combination that made her unforgettable to all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Edgar B. Walters; her daughter, Jennifer Walters Simmons, and her husband, Richard Simmons; and her cherished grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Simmons. She is also survived by her sister, Anita Blankenship (Jerry) of Dallas, Texas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roger McCain.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the University Baptist Church Chapel on Saturday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m.
Elinor will be remembered for her faith, her strength, her joyful spirit, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of integrity, devotion, service, and fierce love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
