Faye Dean Marshall was born on December 21, 1939, in Grapeland, Texas, to Maudie Bell Pouncy and Edgar Pouncy. On August 15, 2026, Faye transitioned from this life at the age of 86, leaving behind a family who will forever cherish her life, her love, and her legacy.
Faye was educated in her hometown of Grapeland, Texas, where she attended W. R. Banks High School and was a member of the Class of 1958.
Following high school, Faye continued her education by attending nursing school, where she completed her nursing education and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She went on to work as an LVN at what is known today as the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), dedicating her professional life to caring for and serving others. Her commitment to caring for others continued well beyond her retirement, as Faye continued providing private-duty nursing care throughout her retirement years.
Faye was also a longtime and faithful member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, her church home for more than 50 years. Throughout those years, she faithfully served the church through numerous auxiliaries and areas of ministry. Her faith, service, and decades of fellowship at Progressive were an
important part of her life.
A Love That Spanned More Than Six Decades Faye shared an extraordinary life with her beloved husband, Darnell Marshall. The two dated for two years before marrying and went on to share 62 years of marriage. On September 21, 2026, they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Their love story began long before those 62 years of marriage. During their courtship, Darnell would walk
Faye to nursing school, carry her books, return to pick her up, and walk her home.
That devotion continued throughout their life together.
During the later years of Faye's life, as her health declined and she became wheelchair-bound and eventually bed-bound, Darnell remained faithfully by his wife's side. He cared for her daily, providing love, comfort, companionship, and support. His devotion remained steadfast throughout their journey together - a
beautiful testament to the commitment they made to one another more than six decades ago.
Her Family
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Maudie Bell Pouncy and Edgar Pouncy; her sister, Betty Groves; and her brother, Sim Pouncy.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Darnell Marshall; her daughter, Donna Faye Marshall-Payne, and her husband, Kelvin Ray Payne; her son, Deornell Marshall, and his wife,
Constance Marshall; her sister, Alice Pouncy Thomas-Black; and her three beloved grandchildren, Reshard DeMarco Nelson, Savonya Janae Marshall, and Deornell Jahmil Imaan Marshall.
Faye also leaves to cherish her memory a loving extended family, including nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended relatives, dear friends, and countless others whose lives she touched throughout her 86 years.
With Special Gratitude
The Marshall family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the entire team at Peaceful Bridge Hospice for the care, compassion, dignity, and support shown to Faye and our family throughout the final season of her life.
We extend an especially heartfelt thank-you to Wendy Langham, Faye's hospice nurse, who walked alongside our family for 15 months. Wendy's presence extended far beyond clinical care. She provided guidance, compassion, reassurance, and support throughout this journey, holding our hands through some of its most difficult moments. Her dedication to Faye and her support of our family will never be forgotten.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to Shamika Andrews, who cared for Faye during the final months of her life and became an integral part of our family. Her presence, kindness, compassion, and willingness to serve brought comfort to Faye and to those who loved her.
The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church family, Faye's church home for more than 50 years, for the prayers, fellowship, love, and support extended to Faye and the Marshall family throughout the years and during this season of transition.
