

Floyd Douglas "Doug" Schurtz passed away August 16 in Houston, Texas after suffering liver failure at age 73. He was born and raised in Bloomington, Texas. to Floyd and Thelma Schurtz. The third of four boys in the family, he worked in the family business, at the Schurtz & Brievogal Meat Market in Bloomington. But music was his passion at the time and it was off to college where he started playing. He was with several bands before landing in Houston where he played saxophone with The Jokers and The Traits in the early 1960's. He met the love of his life Patricia Roberson during his musical days and they married in the fall of 1965. They became parents to their only child Douglas Patrick Schurtz in 1968. Floyd worked over 20 years with Brown and Root before retiring. Then together with his loving wife, the two never stopped being anywhere at anytime day or night to help someone in need.
Doug was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Jimmy Schurtz and his loving wife of 43 years Patricia Love Schurtz, who went to be with The Lord in September 2009. He is survived by his son Douglas Patrick Schurtz, his wife Neely and children Joshua and Tessa. He is also survived by his brothers William "Spanky" Schurtz & Michael "Mickey" Schurtz, their children, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Doug was a loving husband, exceptional father and beloved grandfather to his two grandchildren. Doug and Pat both were wonderful friends to so many, caregivers to many others and a stranger to very few...
A memorial service will be held Saturday August 27th at 3pm at the Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster Texas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the South Houston Senior Center.
