She had such a wonderful life: teacher, parent, grandparent, good friend, and loyal trusted member of society – best of all, Fran Gentry was a wonderful spouse and companion.
She felt fortunate about the opportunity she had to teach the next generations of students and members of society. Fran enjoyed life and the study of reading and writing. Her classes of 7th grade language arts were well known and respected.
A graduate of the University of Kansas, Fran carried that “Jay Hawk” spirit to her classes both at Clear Lake schools and at the University of Houston, Clear Lake, where she earned a graduate degree in language arts. She loved travel, particularly to spots in Europe, Central America, and by sea and oceans.
After seeing the positive effects of travel with her children, Alex and Cecily, Fran expanded her own trips with her husband, Mickey (Homer Gentry), to such spots as Egypt, Central Europe, Greece and the Baltic seas.
Only her love of quilting could surpass her love of travel. She worked on her sewing well into her 80s. A day away from sewing and interaction with her four grandchildren could barely take her away from the passions of a quilting bee.
Fran was a member Clear Lake Presbyterian Church and numerous organizations touching on education and the arts. She volunteered throughout her life at the church, schools in CCISD, The Assistance League of the Bay Area, and the League of Women Voters.
She loved her Martinez grandchildren (Cole and Mac, sons of Roel and Cecily) and her Gentry grandchildren (granddaughter Amelie and grandson Finn).
We miss her terribly but appreciate seeing and hearing her during the last days of her life.
