Gary Curtis Stewart was born on December 15, 1948 to Melvin Curtis and Betty Joyce Stewart. He was the eldest of four children. Gary attended Central High School in Galveston, Texas where he dominated the football field, earning him the nickname “Hawk.” In the position of wide receiver, it was said he could see the ball coming from a mile away. In the year of 1967, Gary graduated and later enlisted in the United States Army. His decorations/medals include the National Defense Service Medal and Marksman Rifle.
