

Gene was born in Gray, Oklahoma on April 6th,1921. Gene attended Galveston Public Schools and graduated from Galveston Ball High School. He loved music and started his music education at the early age of 7 years, learning music and hearing of his Savior through this music. He was in several bands including Galveston Ball High School. He worked at Tick’s Garage as a mechanic. This is where he met the love of his life, Florence Carol O’Mara. She worked at Tick’s as the bookkeeper. Gene and Flo were married on July 10th,1943 and they celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2013.
Gene served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war Gene worked at Union Carbide as a machinist and later became a seal specialist. He was asked to help start up a chemical plant in Syracuse, Sicily taking all his family to Italy in 1962. Gene was an accomplished designer always working to improve everything.
He was predeceased by his wife Florence Carol O’mara, their son Fred William Salzmann, a daughter Sharon K Salzmann, and a son-in-law David Johnson. He is survived by daughters Suzan Salzmann Platzer and Carol Salzmann Johnson Parr, his grandchildren April Salzmann Ontiveros, Travis Salzmann, Emily Platzer Bartel, Amber Platzer Corcoran, Neal Jared Platzer, Sharon Johnson Lopez, Sean Johnson, great grandchildren Noah Ontiveros, Seth Ontiveros, Anison Lopez, Ava Lopez, Sophia Johnson, Audrey Johnson, Elowyn Florence Platzer Bartel, sister in law Vera Fowlkes and extended family Janet Salzmann Bush, Neal Platzer, Tom Parr, Cesar Ontiveros, Angie Salzmann, Luke Bartel, Edward Corcoran, Bernie Lopez, Tiffany Johnson, Ashley Lopez, Erin Parr Stohlman, Robbie Stohlman, Kasey Parr Meinecke, Justin Meinecke and Kelly Parr.
Funeral service will be held at 3pm, February 11th, 2017, at Forest Park East in Webster, TX. The pallbearers for the services are: Sean Johnson, Travis Salzmann, Cesar Ontiveros, Bernie Lopez, Edward Corcoran and Luke Bartel.
