Buddy was born on May 29, 1951, in Luling, Texas. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1970 and went on to attend Baylor University on a basketball scholarship. After graduating in 1975 with a BS in Education, he returned to Clear Creek as the junior varsity men’s basketball coach. In 1978, Buddy became the varsity men’s basketball coach until his retirement in 2006.
During his coaching career, Buddy compiled a 579-341 record and had 12 playoff berths. Honors throughout his career included being inducted in the CCISD Athletic Hall of Honor as both a coach and a player, and he was a member of the UIL Texas High School Basketball Top 100 Coaches. Buddy also served as a member of the TABC (Texas Association of Basketball Coaches). He was extremely proud to have the basketball court at George B. Carlisle Field House named in his honor. At Buddy’s retirement, former League City Mayor Jerry Shults named May 23, 2006, as “Buddy Carlisle Day.”
In recent years, Buddy dealt with speech and swallowing issues following throat cancer, which eventually led to his passing. As much as Buddy loved basketball, he loved his three girls more. From summers at his beloved lake house in Livingston, to attending Clear Creek Volleyball games where his youngest daughter, Kaleigh, plays, he was a “Girl Dad.” He will be remembered as a beloved husband, devoted father/grandfather, loyal son/brother, and a forever friend and mentor to so many.
Buddy was preceded in death by his father, George Carlisle, and brother, Billy Carlisle.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jenny Carlisle; daughters, Kelsey Gross (Zach) and Kaleigh Carlisle; granddaughter, Brookleigh Gross; mom, Peggy Carlisle; and sister, Vicki Garrison (Bob).
A public Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at Clear Creek High School on Buddy Carlisle Court in George B. Carlisle Field House.
