

Harold George Spangler, Jr., 81, passed away on August 6, 2013, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was born to Harold George and Esther H. Spangler on March 31, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Harold was a proud 1954 graduate of Baylor University with a BBA degree. He also earned a Masters in Economics from the University of Houston and a Masters degree in Accounting from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
He was a member of the American Legion, Houston Area Parkinson’s Society and Hadassah Keeper of the Gate. He served on the Baylor University Development Council and was a member of the Baylor University Advocacy Board for the College of Computer Science and Engineering.
His loyalty to the Green and Gold of Baylor University resulted in the creation of the Harold G. and Miriam Kestenbaum Spangler Endowed Scholarship in Education. This is awarded to students who have dedicated themselves to entering the education field to provide schools with the highest quality of teachers.
He served in the United States Air Force as a Major. He later worked for Unisys and United Space Alliance as a Computer Data Analyst for the US Shuttle program. He was a voracious reader and loved to learn. He constantly took courses in Language Arts and History. He also held a Pilot’s license.
He was truly a loyal and dedicated friend to all he met along Life’s way. He is survived by his loving wife, Miriam Kestenbaum Spangler. The two spent 41 years together. He also is survivd by cousins: Benard & Ethel Nelkin, Stuart & Carol Nelkin, Rita Blumenfeld, Reba Magids, Judy Magids, Bernie, Les & Howard Feldman, Barbara & Steve Mayer, Glenda Rosenberg and Sondra Katz. He is also survived by the Baylor Bubbas: Harvey Joe and Marlan Anderson, Bob and Mary Ann Bowers, Jim and Judy Casey and his Baylor roommate: Robert Stich.
Miriam would like to thank his caregivers: Mary Thomas, LaGasha Coleman and Marlene Anderson for their tender loving care of Harold during his illness. She is so thankful for all you did for him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 4-6 pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 12, 2013, at 10 am with military honors to be held at the graveside.
