Helen Stephens

Helen Marie “Nina” Stephens of League City, Texas passed away on Sept. 8, 2014. She was born in Coleman, Texas to Mildred and Neil Futch on June 3, 1921. She was educated in Coleman, Texas and attended John Tarleton College in Stephenville, Texas. After retirement from Clear Creek Independent School District, Helen enjoyed volunteering in the classroom at League City Elementary. She was very proud to be named one of the school’s outstanding volunteers. She loved her yarn and was constantly crocheting, painting, and making crafts to share with friends. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas – Bluebonnet Chapter and League City United Methodist Church. Helen married the love of her life, Ernest Stephens, in 1942 in San Rafael, California. They had a son, Ernest Stephens III, and a daughter, Tana Stephens Clark, and husband Paul. Her grandchildren are Andrew and Garrett Clark, Fiancé Ashley Vinson and an extended family in Brenham, Texas. In Helen’s own words, she wrote that she loved her family and certainly treasured her friends. In addition to flowers, donations can be made to Neighbor to Neighbor through the League City United Methodist Church. The visitation will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m.
