Hsi Kwang Feng, age 86, passed peacefully from this world at his home in Houston, Texas on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Hsi was born on April 7, 1934 in Fujo, Fujian, China and was one of five children. He grew up in China in the shadow of World War II and the Chinese Civil War. He was fortunate to leave on the last ship from China to Taiwan before the Bamboo Curtain fell across China. He attended National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan and later met and married Tai Hua Wu. He received his MS degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri in 1963.

He worked most of his life on fusion research at Fermilab in IL and Princeton’s Plasma Physics Lab in NJ. He spent his life helping others and opened his home to many relatives and friends. He spent his retired years watching after his grandchildren.

Hsi is preceded in death by his father, mother and two of his brothers. He is survived by his wife, Tai Feng, and four children, Susan Ballarini of Houston, Peter Feng of Houston, David Feng of Boston and Tanya Feng of Austin. He is also survived by his sisters, Shirley Wang of Houston and Anna Su Chen of Los Angeles and many other loving relatives, cousins, grandchildren.

Due to concerns about COVID-19, the family is unable to celebrate Hsi’s life as they had initially planned. To minimize the spread of virus, a limited viewing for family members will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held next year around Father’s Day.

Since arriving in Houston, about 25 years ago, the Clear Lake Chinese Church has become an extended family. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial contribution to the Clear Lake Chinese Church at http://clearlakechinesechurch.org/give.

Grandpa Feng is a so humble, wise, kindly, and faithful old man in our impression. He always concerned and took care of anyone who needed help. He used to share his knowledge and experiences about the prostate cancer treatment with us. For this reason, Henry survived from this disease without severe side effect now. We really appreciate him. His kindness and lovely smile will be stored in our memory. We will miss him forever.
In this difficult time, we want to express our deep condolence and wish Lord be with grandma Feng and your families.
Love in Chris,
Henry and Helen

I will always remember your faithfulness of persistent Sunday worship with Grandma Feng in spite of many difficulties. Thank you for sharing your family stories with me. Praise God, You have a precious heart of purity and humility. As the Lord said, “3Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 18: 3-4)

Dear Grandma and family,

I am so sad to hear of Grandpa Feng’s passing. Knowing he left us in the most peaceful way in his sleep brings comfort.

I am so thankful to have had such a faithful and kind person as an elder in our church. I always admired him for being one of the first pioneers to come to the US to study. Also to have raised 4 highly educated children is a great accomplishment.
I am so honored to have gotten to know him through your daughter.

He will always be in our hearts. May God bless you, your children and grandchildren and bring comfort and peace to you in your time of loss.

Love

Dear Grandpa Feng,

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psalms 119:105 NUN. Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Still remember those days when we were in the same Sunday School class at CLCC.

Dear Grandpa Feng,
I still remember all those good times when you took all the elderly ladies out to lunch because those outings were always the first thing my mom would tell me when I came home from work. Thank you for being a good role model for me for your loyalty and faithfulness to your wife, family, and the church. You will be forever in our hearts.

When we think of Grandpa Feng our memory always go back to the years when we were in the same Sunday School class. He was in his mid seventies. He and Grandma Feng always first showed up in the class, he always participated actively in the class discussions and shared his life experience. We benefited a lot from those sharings. He is grateful person. We don't remember how many times he said he had been so blessed with his family and with the people surrounding him. Grandpa Feng, rest peacefully in God's hands.
