It’s been a little over  5 years since you departed to heaven.  Not a day goes by I don’t miss you.  I wish and regret everyday that I should have learned a bit more Spanish to talk with you.  But I know if I’m worthy of coming to heaven I won’t have the language barrier to stop me from talking to you for hours on end.  You were such a great grandma to me and to all of us. There are days I wish you were still here just to see your face and all my hurts and concerns would just go away.  Your faith in God was so strong I saw you as his instrument and witness. It has been over a month now that you transiton into the Celestial city on Saturday, June the 15th. I, along with my Urbina-Salce siblings,are rejoicing that you are now walking in the streets that are paved in gold. Yea!--
We are glad that you are enjoying the "wonder" of heaven, totally surrounded by Jesus' love and singing "el canto de los salvos"--"The Song of the Dead," along with His angels and the saints of all nationalities that have been saved by God's "Grace."
 Mom, I wrote this message in Spanish, and I want to deliver the following words in Spanish, the language that I used in communicating with you since I was a child. This is a memo from my heart in your honor, the beautiful woman that first held me in her arms, at 11 o'clock in the morning on a Tuesday, September 13th in the year 1932 I know that you and daddy,the  Rev. Manuel Urbina, were thrilled that your first born son, Adiel-Homero-Marcos, now had a baby sister, which you and dad named Berenice, and nicknamed me "Bere." From the very first day of my life, I was daddy's little princess and the "apple of his eye."--I want to thank both of you for the memories of showering me with love, love, love!--I'll miss you!

We are reflecting and rejoicing in the 105 years of the bountiful life that God granted you. 
 Irene Salce de Urbina was a steadfast pillar in the "North Mission Board" of the Southern Baptist family. Missionary Irene's Christian legacy of 37 years in the "Vineyard of the Lord" as a "church planter" along with her husband, the Rev. Manuel Urbina, will  forever be etched into the rich history of the North-American Missions of the Southern Baptist Board.

Dear mom--This is your oldest son, Adiel-Marcos. The following is the prayer that I wrote to you on Wednesday, June 15th, the day that you transition into heaven.
I spoke the same prayer at the congregation at the chapel at Forest Park East, four days later after you were celebrating the "wonder of Heaven" together with your Heavenly Father and His angels.
I wrote and spoke the following prayer that spoke of your Christian legacy and Warrior for the Lord, along with our dad, the Rev. Manuel Urbina. I wrote and said the following prayer in Spanish: "Padre nuestro que estas en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre.  Estamos reunidos en este lugar para despedir de entre nosotros a tu amada hija, Irene Salce de Urbina---nuestra querida mama, nuestra madre, una "heroina de la Fe," quien dejo marcada nuestra historia con huellas de Buena Madre, Buena Cristiana, y Buena Esposa, y una ayuda especial para tu siervo, "el Rev. Manuel Urbina."
Sabemos que ya escucho las palabras que Tue tenias en reserva para ella--"Bien, buena y fiel sierva---sobre poco has sido fiel, sobre mucho the pondre:  "Entra en el gozo de tu Senor."

Dear mom, the Urbina-Salce kids,"sus hijos" will always treasure the summer days--"the dog days of summer"--"La canicula", that we spent together in your 105 lifespan. We remember fondly that you loved to hear the birds singing outside your bedroom window, to listen to the sound of the roosters at dawn, and the sound of the whistle of the train at midnight always brought you nostalgic memories of your missionary trips throughout Brazoria county. You loved the smell of pinto beans, Mexican rice, enchiladas, and "tortillitas de manteca" cooking in the kitchen stove. We remember that you were a "master" gardener and planted trees and flowers in all the church personages where you and my dad, the Rev. Manuel Urbina, were living. You loved the smell of roses, gardenias, and azaleas. You especially loved planting fruit trees, especially orange and pecan trees.
We treasure all those summer days that we spent together--Your signing a pile of books with your beautiful "palmer" writing. Each day around you, mom, brought a certain "flair." Examples of your always being the hostess with the "mostest" are your following expressions: "ya comiste, hijo Manuel---Dale algo que comer a Jim--ya comieron Adiel-Marcos y Estercita," etc., etc.
Thanks, mom for bringing joy to everyone around you, no matter who or where they happen to meet you.

Dear abuelita, On Wednesday, July the 3rd, in a "Yahrzeit" Jewish anniversary tradition ceremony in San Francisco, California,
I lit a "yahrzeit memorial  candle" to honor your 105 "primaveras" which the Lord so graciously granted you. Your earthly candle for your exemplary  Christian legacy that you left us  has been somewhat diminished, but it will never be extinguished.
Thanks for being a fine Christian woman "after God's own heart."--
 I will always remember the childhood song that you taught me: "This little light of mine, I am going to let it shine....let it shine till Jesus calls us home at the appointed time---"one by one."--On that day,he will call us by whispering tenderly a name that only He knows---Our entrance into heaven will indeed be a day of "rejoicing" where we will all "shout the victory"--"-V-"is for the victory that Jesus accomplished in the cross to seal our eternal destiny in Heaven. As the "Canto de los Salvos" says: "Amen, aleluyas, aleluyas y amen....." Until we meet again, abuelita--thanks for letting your Christian life shine and shine as a servant of the "most high God."--

Thanks for the memories---You have set the ultimate Christian example of a true Christian lady. Thanks for your example of a Christian  hostess with the "mostest." as you labored , together with my "abuelito" as a church planter---in the vineyard of the Lord.  Thanks also for the legacy of "El canto de los salvos.", which the Holy Spirit, gave you the creativity to write. This celestial hymn will always hold a special place in our hearts, in ou rfamily library, and in our family celebrations throughout our lives.
 You, abuelita, have followed the Christian example of the apostol Paul in IITimothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight.....I have finished the race....."
 Good job, abuelita---a true servant of the "most High God."!
  You will be missed---Look at you,--Yea! you are now walking the golden gates of Heaven, and joyfully  singing with the saints and the angels in heaven "El canto de los salvos, aleluya, y amen.....".

  Your mom, Irene Salce de Urbina has always been an inspiration to our family. She has been a testimony of a "woman after God's own heart."  We will always cherish the memory of her service to God as a "church planter."

My earliest memories of my Grandmother Urbina were of Grandma Urbina at my grandfather's side as Grandpa Urbina preached to the congregation he led.  I remember participating in the Christmas plays that my grandmother organized as the pastor's wife.  My grandparents planted the seeds of faith that grew into the love of Christ in each of their children.   My mother, Berenice, is the oldest daughter and she followed their example and planted the seeds of faith in each of her children.   My siblings and I are blessed to have a mother that followed her mother's example and strives to maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and continues to guide and lead by example so that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will continue the "family tradition" of praising God for our blessings and trials and walk by faith -- not by sight.   Praise God for granting my grandmother a long fruitful life and peaceful passing to her reward.

I would like to thank our Lord and Savior for giving us such a beautiful, gracious and pious lady for a grandmother and great grandmother. Although we did not all speak the same language, her every act was a testament to the will God and the manner in which he wanted us to live. And in that way this great lady, who was once a teacher, never stopped teaching. That same beauty, graciousness and piety now also shines through in my mother and my wife. And for that I am even more grateful. So on this day that we mourn the loss of her earthly life, I also celebrate the beginning of her heavenly life and an eternity with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. AMEN

 Thank you for the Godly advice, mottos, poems, ecclesiastical history and precious "momentos" that you so generously shared with us though the wonderful life of 105 years, minus two weeks, that God granted you to be a testimony of His grace toward us, her family. Thanks for giving of your time from a busy missionary's life as a "church planter, to write a variety of Christian poems. Your ecclesiastical history  of "church planters" will hold a special place in our family history library. Thanks for sharing this "true-blue-gift" for writing that God gave you.
  I, Eunice Juanita, enjoyed the poems that I first learned from you, and I quote:
  "Nada te turbe, nada te espante, todo se pasa, Dios no se muda, quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta."-- --Loosely translated: "Let nothing disturb you, let nothing "spook-you out";--everything passes, God does not move--He is forever constant and faithful--Therefore, whoever has God in his heart, lacks nothing."
  Many thanks for your advice of  "hanging tight to Jesus' hand" on the "bumpy" roads of life, because of the eternal value of developing a close relationship with our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.
  My dear mom, Jim, mom's-in-law, and her nietecita, Jayme Joynita, and all of Eunice Juanita's siblings, would like to thank all of you nurses out there for your tender loving care--also a heartfelt thanks goes to Miss Tracy, mom's chaplain, for her spiritual support that she gave our mom and to our family during this cycle of our mom's journey. Our mom is now in heaven.--

Look at you--now you can walk in the golden streets of heaven.
