She was born in Hodge, Louisiana on July 14, 1933 to the late Thomas Eugene Barker and the late Ivazoe Miner Barker. She married Joe Garth Walker on July 6, 1952 in Lufkin, Texas.
Iva graduated from Lufkin high school and received a Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Houston in 1972 and later received her librarian certification to become a librarian.
Iva was a second grade teacher and then later became a librarian in the Clear Creek Independent School District until she retired in 1987.
Iva had many accomplishments throughout her education and her career. She was Valedictorian and a member of Pi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Alvin Community College. In 1979 she was initiated into the Alpha Delta Kappa honorary Society, she was President of the Clear Creek teachers association in 1984 and became a member a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society in 1986.
She was also in the Who’s Who in American Education in 1987-1988.
Iva is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Eugene Barker, her mother, Ivazoe Miner Barker and brother, Thomas Eugene Barker Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Garth Walker of Dickinson, Texas and her three children: Brent Eugene Walker of Huntington, Texas; Garthan Walker Landers of Dickinson, Texas and Glena Walker Bailey of Lake Jackson, Texas.
She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Jason, Jennifer, Melissa, Dwayne, Laura, Elizabeth and Garth; her 11 Great Grandchildren: Kayhla, Stephen, Christian, Brennan, Ashlynn, Dallas, Madalyn, Carter, Addisyn, June and Evelyn; and her Great-Great Grandchild Aiden.
