Jack James Oates, March 31, 1921-August 13, 2015, born in Loveland, Colorado, came to Texas with his parents in 1927 and graduated from Brownwood High School. He attended John Tarleton A & M College where he met his wife, Lillian Mack. They were married for 62 years. He worked for Hughes Tool Company for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred J. Oates and Anna Haubert; his wife, Lillian; and daughter, Mary Ann Caruso. He is survived by his son, James M. Oates and wife Lucille; son-in-law, Frank Caruso; grandson Jack Mize and wife Heather; two great-grandsons, Max and Sam Mize; and grandson, David Mize. During WWII, Jack served three years and two months in the United States Army. He was in the Aleutian Island campaign and then went to the Philippines. He served as Honor Guard to escort F. D. R.’s body to the White House. He was a member of Park Place Masonic Lodge #1172 for over 50 years. Family graveside for Masonic service only.
