He is survived by his loving wife Lavern Carlson Fair, who were married for 69 years. He is also survived by his daughters Donna Fair, Barbara Sutherland and her husband Ron, and son David Fair and his wife Jane. Grandson Michael Clark and fiancé Nation and great-grandchildren Hutsyn and Shiner, Granddaughter Sara Jane Fair-Yukawa and husband Taylor and great-grandson Theo and grandson Calton Fair. He is also survived by two sisters, Beverly Duncan of San Marcos, TX and Margaret Eyrich of Sierra Vista, Az.
He was an avid golfer and a huge Texas Longhorns fan.
He loved God and was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. James sang, taught, and preached at various churches throughout his life. He was a faithful servant at the First Baptist Church, Houston and Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church, and he was an ordained minister to the Deaf at the First Baptist Church in Beaumont for 16 years until his retirement.
He worked for the Houston Post and retired from there and also worked as a cement mason.
After retirement he enjoyed spending more time with his family, playing golf, attending church and praising God, until he was called home to be with Jesus on Friday, June 24, 2022.
