

James Maurice Grimwood passed away on September 2, 2014 and left behind a world that will be poorer without him. He was born on October 26, 1922 in Lincoln, AL to Harold H. Grimwood and Lois Herring Grimwood. He is survived by Hilda Jernigan Grimwood, the love of his life and wife of over seventy years. They were married at the train station in Birmingham, AL in 1944 as he was on his way to the South Pacific with the US Navy.
James was a noted historian and genealogist. He was Chief Historian at NASA from 1962 until his retirement in 1979. His books include This New Ocean (A History of Project Mercury), On the Shoulders of Titans (A History of Project Gemini), and Chariots for Apollo (A History of Manned Lunar Spacecraft). After retirement, he did extensive genealogical research, so we would all know how we fit in with our family history. His final work was a memoir called What I Remember that will be treasured for generations to come.
He leaves behind a sister, Margaret Chance of Gadsden, AL. He leaves two children, James Keith Grimwood of West Fork, AR and Hilda Janis Criswell of Houston, TX, a grandson, James Kevin Grimwood of Fayetteville, AR and a great-grandson, Jameson Reza Grimwood.
James was a member of Clear Lake Baptist Church. Services will be held at the church on Sunday, September 7 at 2 PM, with a reception to follow. There will be a brief viewing at 1:30 PM on the same day. Interment will take place Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.
