James "Big James" Albert Stone

James "Big James" Albert Stone, age 80, of Pearland, died peacefully with his family January 23, 2022. He was born in Luling, Texas on July 19, 1941 to Willie Carl Stone, Sr., and Janie Elizabeth Stone, nee West. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a Claims Manager for Fireman’s Fund Insurance where he made lifelong friendships that continued after his retirement. He was a proud Milby High School Buff where he was on the baseball and football teams. He graduated in 1959 and then attended University of Texas Austin, graduating in 1964. He was a member of many groups, including the Milby Alumni Association, Milby Tip-Off Club and Texas Exes. He had a passion for football, baseball, politics, WWII history, reading, family, faith and kindness. He was charitable, giving generously to all groups who reached out. He was a humble man who loved well and was loved in return by everyone who knew him. Family was everything to him, and he was sentimental about the small Texas town his parents hailed from, still taking the Luling Newsboy and making trips with family to the City Market in Luling for lunch. James always had a cup of coffee in his hand and a new book to read. He loved Christmas and couldn’t wait to share the joy of the season. He was lighthearted, reveling in a good practical joke, and his family was always awaiting his next one.

He is survived by brother Willie Carl Stone, Jr., sisters Artie Janiet Lanclos and Mary J. Hart, many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. He was very active in his grand-nephews’ and grand-niece’s lives who loved him so much. He was a wonderful part of their lives, as he was with his friends’ children and grandchildren who were lucky to know him.

A visitation for Big James will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598. A committal service will occur Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598.
