Janet had a special gift for making people laugh with her funny and wonderful sense of humor. She was a sweet, determined, and hardworking woman whose kindness touched everyone she met. She spent many years serving her community as a grocery cashier at Giant Food in Virginia before retiring and later owning her own cleaning business. She was dearly loved by the staff and residents of the assisted living community where she lived until her passing.
Janet was faithfully devoted to her husband, Golden "Tom" Ferris, throughout their 50 years of marriage, standing by his side through every joy and challenge. Although she spent most of her married life in Virginia, she recently moved to Texas to be closer to her daughters. A faithful member of Dale City Baptist church in Virginia, Janet loved the Lord with all her heart and found great comfort in her faith. She was at peace and ready to meet her Savior.
Janet's hands were rarely still. She found joy in cooking, sewing, and making crafts, bringing love and care to every stitch and every recipe she created. She also had a passion for genealogy, spending countless hours tracing her family's history, and preserving precious memories for future generations. Above all, Janet cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose greatest happiness came from caring for those she loved.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Pamela Fay; her parents, James and Alma Wilcox; and her beloved husband, Golden "Tom" Ferris.
She is survived by her daughters, Debora Riley and husband Robert Riley, and Lorie Cross; her stepchildren, Carol Meyers and Ronnie Ferris and wife Sherrie; her grandchildren, Clint Wilson, Gary Wilson, Chris Cross, Tabitha Riley, and Brooke Riley; her great-grandchildren, Summer Lee, Jaden Wilson, Olivia Munson, Max Sheffield, Michael Sheffield, Logan Whitney, Jasmine Cross, and Christy Cross; and her brothers, Rev. James Wilcox and Victor Wilcox and wife Deborah; sister, Judy Bryant, and husband Doren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Janet will be remembered for her unwavering faith, and smile, compassionate heart, and steadfast devotion to her family. Her life was a beautiful example of love, perseverance, and grace, and her legacy will continue to live in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
May she rest in the eternal peace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
