Opal Jean Ferraro, 88, of Houston, Texas, peacefully went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2023. Jean was born to Bruce and Virgie Ray Majors in Center, Texas, on June 8, 1934. After graduating from Galveston Ball High School, she met the love of her life, Joe Ferraro, and they were married in 1955. They had three sons, Bruce, Keith and David, and the couple lived in the South Belt area for the past 65 years. Both are faithful members of South Belt Church.
Jean was a remarkable and loving wife who embodied the true essence of selfless love. Her unwavering devotion to her husband and her compassionate nature will forever be remembered and deeply missed. Jean was also an amazing mother, grandmother and friend. She was kind, gentle, always smiling, and loved hosting weekly family gatherings and holiday celebrations. If you visited Jean, you were well fed, your cup was never empty, and she made sure you were cheered up if that is what you needed. She will always be remembered for her hugs, welcomed advice and shared her whole heart with family and friends. She truly loved each of them – and if you knew her, you knew it. She will be dearly missed.
Jean loved reading and solving crossword puzzles; she could have been the best Jeopardy! Contestant to never appear on the show. She knew trivia, and sharing those games and TV shows with her grandchildren gave her some of the greatest joy in life. Jean also loved attending church, where Joe was a Deacon, and seeing her friends every week. Her favorite part of the service was singing the hymns, and the three that meant the most to her were “It Is Well With My Soul,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Blessed Assurance.” It’s no wonder these meant the most to her. These songs teach us that life’s trials and burdens help us endure and flourish. Through our faith, we have the strength to face any adversity with a steadfast heart.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents Bruce and Virgie Ray Majors; sisters Willie B. Alexander, Thelma Wiggins and Linda Majors; and her brother, A.V. Majors.
She is survived by her husband Joe, three sons, and their wives Bruce and Janet Ferraro of Houston, Texas; Keith and Susan Ferraro of Manvel, Texas; and David and Debra Ferraro of Alvin, Texas; her sister Joyce Milner of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren and their spouses Joseph and Tamara Ferraro; Andrew and Dana Ferraro, Todd and Natalie Ferraro; Gina and Ovie Thomas; Anthony and Jennifer Ferraro; Amy and Paul Flanigan, Selena and Jeremy Hann; Lisa and Luke Pearce; Joey Urbino; and Shelly Extrom.
