October 13, 1929 – January 7, 2021
Jean Gilliam, of Texas City, joined her husband of 63 years, Dewey Gilliam, Jr., and our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven on January 7, 2021.
Jean was born October 13, 1929 in Haskell, Texas to Arthur and Jewell Proffitt. She married Dewey on June 19, 1945 and immediately took a bus to Galveston, where they lived until moving to Texas City in 1949. Jean lived in Texas City until the last few months of her life, from there she moved into Seasons Personal Care Home in Hitchcock. We appreciate the love, care and compassion she received from the residents and caregivers there.
Jean enjoyed cooking, her banana pudding was the best you have ever had. She loved to make macaroni and cheese and black cherry Kool-Aid for her grandkids, and then her great grandkids. She also loved her garden and had a beautiful back yard, she was known for having a spotless home and yard. She assisted Dewey with the Gilliam Trucking Company until they retired, then owned and operated various resale businesses.
She is survived by her Children, Leslie and Debbie Gilliam, Sharron and Gary Kittrell, and Lloyd (Butch) and Carolyn Gilliam. Jean is also survived by Brother, Hayden Proffitt and Sister-In-Law, Lena Gilliam Haire. She loved her Grandchildren, Tara and Chad Beaver, Amiee and Keith McGuire, Morgan and Monica Gilliam, Tracy and Kimberly Gilliam. She also had many Great Grandchildren that she cared for deeply, Nicholas and Maria Jose Zamora, Makenzie Beaver, Chad Michael Beaver, Jr., Reese McGuire, Coty McGuire, Marshall Gilliam, Baker Gilliam, Caroline Gilliam, Bethanne Gilliam, Terry Gilliam and Lindsey Gilliam. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.
