JoAnn and her sister, Arta Jean Kunkle , moved to Homer City PA, where her Father opened their Lumber Mill & Yard. This was JoAnns’ beginning of her Building skills along side her Father. After finishing high school she pursued a career in nursing and she was an RN for many years. JoAnn had a love for animals at an early age. She passed on her love for horses to both her daughters. She had such a passion for animals she raised several dogs as well which passed down to her entire family including her grandsons.
She also became a successful licensed real estate agent. She was a member of Houston SPCA, Folk dance, gardening and neighborhood dinner clubs.
Her family was very important to her. Grandma Joe’s grandsons will remember her as the ultimate fan, taking every opportunity to cheer them on at all their school programs, sporting events, band competitions and concerts.
JoAnn was proceeded in death by her parents, J.C. and Garnet Kunkle, her sister Arta Jean Kunkle, John E. Macalla and her late husband David Bell III.
JoAnn is survived by her children, John Douglas Macalla (wife Karen), Kathleen Ann Bader (husband John), and Christine Denise Macalla. Grandchildren, Clayton Macalla(wife Katy), John Macalla (wife Alayna), Connor Macalla (wife Katelyn) and Sean Thomas O’Connor. And 2 great granddaughters, Brooklyn and Charlotte Macalla
