

Joe Lynn Lamb, born on May 19, 1938, in Chester, TX, peacefully passed away at the age of 86 on June 5th, 2024. Joe was the beloved son of Joe and Mary Lamb. In 1942, his family moved to League City, TX, where Joe would eventually leave a lasting legacy.
Joe graduated from Webster High School in 1956 and went on to serve his country honorably in the US Army from 1961 to 1967, stationed in Germany during the Cold War. Following his military service, Joe embarked on a remarkable 40-year career with Union Carbide as a technical plant supervisor, contributing significantly to plant start-ups in Puerto Rico and Malaysia.
In 1964, Joe married, Linda Sue Willis. Their union, which spanned 59 years, was blessed with four children and ten grandchildren. Joe was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones. His children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life.
Joe's love for League City was evident in his dedicated public service. He served on the City Council from 1976 to 1979 and as Mayor from 1979 to 1994. His campaign slogan, "Doing a tough job well," reflected his commitment to the community. Among his many accomplishments were the development of Highway 96, the League City Parkway, the incorporation of the city's EMS system, and the establishment of the water treatment plant. Joe's vision laid the foundation for League City to become the largest city in Galveston County.
An avid traveler and a man of many conversations, Joe never met a stranger. He was passionate about his beliefs and had a deep love for U.S. history, particularly the Civil War. Joe's expertise in this area was well-known among his peers.
Joe also dedicated his time to various organizations, serving on the Clear Lake Hospital Board of Regents and many others in Galveston County. His contributions to these institutions were invaluable.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Lamb, and his sister, Billie Jean Flight brothers-in-law Jimmy Flight and Edward J. Dworsky. Sister in laws Nancy Willis Schwathe,
Betty Willis Hamilton and Ann Willis Patrolia, Jane Ellen Willis, and John Wesley Willis.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Lamb, his sister Nettie Dworsky, and his four children: Suzanne and her husband Frank Marquez and their children Paige, Peyton, and Pryce; Lori Lamb and Craig Courtue and her children Sean, Zachery, and Gracie; Jonathan Lamb and his wife Holly and their children Jaxton and Brynlee; and Lesli and her husband Roddy Maybee and their children Lillian and Ruby. Joe is also survived by nieces and nephews and many loving cousins and close friends.
Throughout his life, Joe always returned to the city he loved, League City, TX, the city of live oaks. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
