John Stephen Smith
March 28, 1941 – January 6, 2021
John Stephen Smith, age 79, of Nassau Bay, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. John was born on March 28, 1941 at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas to parents, James Ryle Smith and Pauline Dinkins. He grew up on the south side of Houston and attended The Kincaid School. John graduated from Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas. He spent most of his life as an entrepreneur and opened several businesses. Some of John's companies included Port City Valve and Light Weight Valve and Smithco Industries; which he opened in 1980 and ran until his death. John loved canoeing and was an avid supporter of Texas Water Safari. He made many trips down the rivers of Texas and around America. Classic cars and pace cars were also something he enjoyed. John was known for his easy going attitude and fun nature.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James Ryle Smith and Pauline Dinkins Smith; brother, Dan Morris Smith; and former spouse of 31 years, Eunice McBurnett Smith. He is survived by his loving family; sons, Rick Smith and wife, Derrilyne Jane of Somerville, Texas, and David Smith and wife, Lorena of Katy, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Timothy Bridges and wife, Claudia, Justin Smith, Brandon Smith and wife, Kimberly, Kenzie Smith and Spencer Smith. Also surviving include 7 great grandchildren, Leo Bridges, Tino Bridges, Clauda Jade Bridges, Molly Smith, Maggie Smith, Bariha Smith and Kyrian Smith; and long time companion, Brenda Walker.
A visitation for John will be held Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Serving as pallbearers are Richard S. Smith, David L. Smith, Ted Slaughter, Brandon M. Smith, Jeff Friend and Spencer H. Smith. The family is being served by Forest Park East Funeral Home 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX 77598.
