Jonathan Wade Batura, 22, of Friendswood Texas passed away on April 16th 2017 in Ramona California. He was born on June 20th, 1994 in Denver Colorado where he loved hiking, camping, fishing and backpacking. Jon summited his first 14 thousand foot peak when he was just 5 years old. He moved to Texas in 2000 and graduated from Clear Springs High School in 2012 where he played on the Junior Varsity and Varsity Soccer Teams. During his senior year Jon helped NASA design organizers for the crew of the International Space Station and his name was put on a patch that still resides on the I.S.S. today. Jon joined The Marine Corps in 2012 and went on a tour of duty in Kuwait in 2015. He was a proud member of “The Raiders” Marine Aerial Refeuler Transport Squadron 352, VMGR-352. Jon exemplified their motto, Always Faithful, in the way he cared for and loved his family, friends and co-workers. Jon gave his best and he expected the best from those around him. He made friends easily wherever he went. Jon could brighten your mood with his smile and when he laughed you couldn't help but laugh with him. He was always ready for fun and good times and was always occupied, yet he was never too tired or busy to listen to someone’s problems, to hug a friend in need or to be the strong shoulders to carry another's weight. His heart was bigger than the Texas sky and he was loved and respected by everyone he met, young and old. He was passionate about the outdoors, the mountains, shooting, country music, cold beer and he loved his work. He was proud to serve his country and be a part of something greater than himself. Jon was a bright light glowing in the darkness, an unstoppable force of good, honor and courage. He was a champion, a warrior, a hero. He was a Raider.
Jon is preceded in death by his aunt, Dawn Rutledge; great uncle, Earnest Garner; grandmother, Wende Kromer and great grandmother, Katherine French. He is the beloved son of his mother Barbara Sweet and father Laird Sweet. Devoted brother to Nathan Batura, Colton Sweet and TJ Saul. Step brother to Autumn Sweet and Jaxon Sweet.
