Born on November 20, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland, Joseph Warren Nixon III was a beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, and friend. He had a deep passion for fishing, kayaking, physical fitness, sports, and law enforcement. He lived his life with purpose, heart, and integrity. Whether out on the water casting a line or pursuing his dream of serving and protecting others, Joseph brought energy, dedication, and sincerity to everything he did.
Joseph moved to Texas from Maryland in 2000 with his family. He grew up alongside his father, mother, and three loving sisters, who always referred to him by the name that carried so much affection—Baby Joe. It was a nickname that began in his earliest days and followed him through life, a sweet reminder of his place in their hearts. Calling him Baby Joe was the family’s way of keeping him close—a term of endearment that spoke to the love and joy he brought into their lives.
He attended Ward Elementary School and later Clear Lake Intermediate, where he played little league football for the Clear Lake Falcons. His time with the team sparked a lifelong dedication to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Joe was rarely seen without Falcons memorabilia; no professional football team had his heart quite like Atlanta’s.
He went on to Clear Brook High School, proudly graduating with the Class of 2018. During high school, he worked at Texas Roadhouse and played defensive end on the school’s football team, where he was known for his hard work and outgoing nature. After graduation, he continued serving his community by working at H-E-B.
Joseph’s passion for law enforcement began while working as a Harris County Detention Officer, where he developed a strong sense of purpose and a commitment to public safety. This experience fueled his desire to become a police officer. He graduated from the University of Houston Police Academy on October 31, 2023, and proudly served as a patrol officer with the La Porte Police Department and the Precinct 8 Constable’s Office. His colleagues and supervisors admired his work ethic, integrity, and unwavering dedication to protecting and uplifting those around him.
Joseph will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, and the way he made others feel valued and loved. His presence brought light and laughter into many lives, and his memory will continue to do the same.
He is survived by his loving grandparents, Joseph and Nadine Nixon Sr.; devoted parents, Joseph and Leatrice Nixon Jr.; and cherished sisters, Lauren Sutton (brother-in-law James Sutton), Jody Nixon (brother-in-law Tony Doucet), and Lea Nixon. Joseph was a proud and playful uncle to his nieces and nephews—Benjamin, Michael, Amelia, Alina, Ivy, and Ava—all of whom adored him.
Joe is welcomed in heaven by his grandparents, Lee and Maurie Coleman, as well as other family members who passed on before him.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
