Joe was born December 12, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to Hugh and Edna Snyder. Joe earned a degree in Physics from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana, then married Judy and moved to Houston in 1962. Joe was employed at NASA’s Johnson Space Center until his retirement in 1995. While at NASA Joe earned recognition for his many contributions to the space program. He and Judy loved to travel, and they saw much of the world and especially enjoyed their frequent trips to the island of Kauai.
In May, 2006, Joe started dating Marcia Winkler. Some of their mutual friends fixed them up. They were married on August 30, 2008. The most hilarious thing they did was make poster sized photographs of hers and his kids and grandkids. It was a lot of people to organize into a big happy family but they did it. Not long after, Marcia retired from her job at UT Medical School. Joe and Marcia started traveling to Canada and some trips with their church group. When Covid shut the US down, Joe and Marcia made the move from Houston to Dallas and Highland Springs.
Joe was a long time member, elder, and Treasurer at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church. He was also a longtime volunteer at Southeast Area Ministries. Joe loved music, and played and sang throughout his life.
Graveside service will be held at Forest Park East in Webster at 10:00 am Wednesday, September 16, 2026. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at Pasadena First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society in his honor.
