Joyce Nelson Schrader went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at the age 77. She was born December 31, 1942, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Nels and Marion Nelson. Joyce earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Augsburg College and spent 18 years teaching 2nd through 5th graders in Minneapolis, Denver, and Houston.

While living in Denver, Joyce met and married the love of her life, Steve and had two wonderful children. First and foremost, she was a devoted wife and mother. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them, and especially loved her role as "Grammy". Joyce had an infectious smile and personality that made everyone around her feel valued and loved, even the stranger lucky enough to stand next to her in line at the checkout counter.

Joyce enjoyed numerous hobbies and activities including reading, sewing, playing bridge and mahjong, quilting, traveling, Bible study, Bunco and just about anything her children and grandchildren were involved in. She was an avid and loyal Houston Texans fan and season ticket holder.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Marion Nelson. She is survived by her brother, John Nelson and his wife Nancy; husband, Steve Schrader; son, Scott Schrader and his wife Mandy; daughter, Julie Schrader; grandchildren, Haley Schrader, Cason Schrader, and Kenisha Babwah; and many extended family, cousins, nieces and nephews.

I have countless wonderful memories with Joyce and the whole Schrader family. Joyce has been in my life since my memories began in early childhood. She is the most loving, kind person. Even when I grew up and had children of my own, she visited and showed her love and support. I feel blessed to have known her. I will never forget her laugh and smile. Hugs and love to the whole family!!!!!

Joyce was such a wonderful person, mother and grandmother. I got to know her through Momentum Academy. She was an AWESOME volunteer and amazing encouragement for her grandson, Cason. I will miss Joyce's companionship and smile at our TMA events. May God Bless the Schraders in this trying time.

Joyce was my special prayer sister several years ago in our Ladies Guild at Hope. I loved that year as she was always so encouraging and supportive.
