Katherine (Kay) Lorraine Post, 91, a long-time resident of Friendswood and a resident of Nassau Bay since the flood of 2017, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020. She was born on July 29, 1928 to Nellie Jobe Sharp and Francis Leroy Sharp, in Buffalo Hart, Illinois.
A loving mother and a caring grandmother, Katherine could always be counted on to offer her help and comfort for whatever was needed by her family – especially chocolate chip cookies. Even in her latter days, when she could no longer see well and was limited by various senior ailments, she was always thinking of others. She was truly a role model for what a warm, loving, self-giving Mother/Mother-in-law/Grandmother should be for her family.
When she lived in Illinois, she was the owner of five ladies dress stores in small towns around Springfield. When she moved to Texas, she worked in real estate for several years before returning to work as a sales clerk, first for Palais Royal and then for Macy’s, after which she retired. She had an eye for fashion and could guess your clothing size just by looking at you.
Katherine was a good home cook. She is well known for her perfect fried chicken and yummy potato salad, to name a few. Her chocolate chip cookies will always hold a special place in the hearts of her family. Her oatmeal raisin cookies were voted “THE BEST” when she sent them to a MASH unit during Desert Storm.
After retirement, Katherine joined every senior group in the Clear Lake area. There were not many days in a month that she was not attending one of the meetings. It was at one of these group events that she met Bill J. Post, who was a widower. They had a whirlwind romance and married on July 19, 1999. Seeing those two so happy and holding hands, many people wanted to know how long they’d been married. Bill would always laugh and reply: “We got married in the last century!”
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Nellie Sharp, her sisters Patricia Adams and Betty Turnbull, her brother Robert Sharp, her husband Bill J. Post, and her stepdaughter Joan Smith.
She is survived by her son Rollin Gardner and wife Roberta (Robyn); her step-children David Post and wife Kaye, John Post and wife Nancy, Jean Mills, and Jimmie Smith; her grandchildren Veronica Gardner Cowart and husband John, and Nicholas Gardner and wife Anna; six step grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and other loving family and friends.
Katherine’s life will be celebrated with a rosary at 10:30am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, located at 18223 Point Lookout Dr., Nassau Bay, Texas 77058, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am with the Reverend Wencil Pavlovsky presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. This group provides food and other assistance to those in need.
