She dreamt of being a teacher when she was in elementary school and saw her dream realized when she became an educator for 35 years. Laurie served the students of Friendswood Jr. High and Windsong Elementary. She was a great advocate for her students and thought of them as her own. Laurie excelled at her craft, and was well respected and loved by administrators, co-workers, and most of all her students.
In 1996, she met her husband Fred at a wedding, and they were married in June of 1997. They were great together, sharing their love of sports and travel. When they retired in 2016, Laurie worked part-time at Windsong, retiring again in 2019.
During their retirement, cruising became their primary form of entertainment with the couple going on over 45 cruises together. Laurie was an avid reader, a meticulous quilter, and loved to cook and try out new recipes.
She is preceded in death by her father Ronald Kaboord. She is survived by her husband Fred Armstrong and her mother Dianne Powell, both of League City, her sisters Linda Gifford (John) of Pensacola Fl., Tracy Powell (Gustav) of Los Angeles Ca., and Tricia Powell of La Jolla Ca., as well as nephews Jordan Gifford, Atlas Sahani, Quincy and Hudson Betts, and nieces Shimla Sahani, Paige Daffern, and Maggie Hohne.
Details of Laurie's celebration of Life are being planned, and that information will be shared soon. Donations can be made in Laurie's name to Three Little Pitties Dog and Cat Rescue.
