Lawrence Manning Evans, Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on February 24, 2021. Larry was born December 14, 1930, in Refugio, Texas to Manning Erval and Clara Virginia Evans. After graduation, he joined the Navy as an Avionics Specialist, serving in Hawaii during the Korean War. During his last year of duty, Larry returned home to marry his best friend and the love of his life for 67 years, Merilyn Finster. Larry and Merilyn’s greatest joys were serving the Lord and raising their three children. He was always ready to lead his family into the next adventure. Larry also had a great love for aviation and space. He always loved airplanes and lived his dream working in the airline industry as an Airline Mechanic Electrician and Inspector for 51 years. Upon retirement, Larry enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. His smile was contagious, and he never met a stranger. Larry’s love and zest for life, adventure and his ability to tinker and fix whatever needed to be fixed were such a blessing to all those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by father Manning Erval Evans, mother Clara Virginia Evans, and sister Ruth Lunell Bruce.
Lawrence Manning Evans, Sr. is survived by his wife of 67 years, Merilyn Evans, daughter Laurie Evans Spelts (Bob), daughter Linda Evans Lira (Rey), son Lawrence Manning Evans, Jr. (Vickie), grandchildren Sarah Pearson (Alan), Kristi Boswell(Tim) , Jacob Lira (Jessica), Jesse Lira, Josh Hughes and Charissa Hughes, great grandchildren Kyndal Gude (David), Jeremy Pearson (Brittany), Jordan Pearson (Lexi), Benjamin Boswell, Micah Boswell, Charlie Boswell, sister Barbara Jean Janssen (Paul), brother in law Paul Bruce (Carmen) and several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598, on March 5, 2021, 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. Services will immediately follow at 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Committal service with military honors will be March 10, 2021, at Houston National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
