This past week, the Youth Minister at my church challenged our youth group to post a status each day saying what we were thankful for. So each day I would post something, usually about family. But as I did, I couldn't help but feel the hole that used to be filled by my Grandma, either in my heart or physically at the dinner table. I struggled with giving thanks because my family was hurting. But over this week, I've realized that even though it still hurts and I still cry from time to time, I have a reason to smile. I can look back on amazing memories and remember the good times. So today, I give thanks for my Grandma. I am thankful for her 71 years of life, 50 of which were spent in marriage. I am thankful that I got to spend 17 years with her from the day I was born to her last weeks. So even though I am sad, I am thankful for her life and I know that I will see her again one day. I love you grandma and you will live on in my heart ?

7 months ago, I was preparing to leave for MountainCamp knowing full well that you weren't going to be here when I got back. It was hard at the time, but I knew that it was what you wanted me to do. I just had no idea just how hard it was going to be to come back. Everyone here misses you like crazy, even though we all show it in different ways, it's just not the same without you. I know you are happy now and no longer in pain, and that gives me comfort. Even though I am finally able to come to terms with all that has happened, not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I miss you so much Grandma. I just wanted to say thank you for all the amazing things that you did for me my whole life. I still sleep with the Pooh Bear stuffed animal that you and Papa got me when I was young. I won't ever forget how you would show up on Christmas morning every year to see what presents we got. Or how you would come to my marching competitions and football games to see our shows. As much as I miss you and wish that you were still here, I am so incredibly proud to say that you were my Grandma and I am so thankful for every moment of the 17 years I got to spend with you. I really just wanted to say that I miss you, but I will see you again someday. I love you ?

Lois was the most caring and generous person I have met. Every time that I see someone decorating a Christmas tree, I will think of Lois and her family 20 years ago. We will miss you greatly.

Marion, we remember the good times -- square dancing, going to lunch, the cruise, talking about gardening and how Lois loved the Sweet 100's.  She was a beautiful and loving wife and we will miss her greatly

Uncle Marion, my deepest condolence to you and the girls.  Aunt Lois will be missed dearly.  God has taken his faithful, courageous servant into his arms and she is now watching over us all.  She always made me smile,laugh until we had tears coming down our faces.  It was her who got Pat and myself into painting ceramics and taught us all the technical tips. She will never be forgotten.  May God bless and give you strength through this difficult time.

Marion, thank you for sending us Lois's letter.  Her words reflect her courage and love of you and your family.  I hope that you all will find comfort, in time,  as you remember her urging you not to be sad.  She was an amazing person and had a devoted, amazing husband.

I Am Thankful for My Life

I have lived for nearly 71 years and have had a good life.  I have had highs and lows in my life, but the highs far outweigh the lows.  I never forget my family and friends that I have lost, but time heals  a lot of the sorrow and I remember the good times that we had.
Marion and I have had 50 years of marriage and so many wonderful times in these short years.  I am so thankful for all the memories.  I have been very lucky to have such a wonderful and caring husband, and I love him very much.  We have had two marvelous girls who have turned out to be such good wives and mothers.  I love you both.  We are lucky to have our sons-in-law who are good husbands and fathers.  I couldn't ask for better ones for my girls.
I am so thankful that I have been able to watch my grandchildren grow up.  Thank you Jeanne and Lori for letting us be a part of their lives.  They have really kept us young.  So many things remind me of you growing up.  Their cute expressions and a lot of their conversations remind us of you two when you were young. Suzanne, what a wonderful young lady you have become.  I have so many good memories.  Thank you for letting me be a part of your life for 17 years. Brian, Kevin and Luke, what wonderful young men you have become.  Thank you too for letting me be part of your lives for 14, 12 and 10 years.  I can't believe that time has passed so fast.  All of the activities that the four of you have let us enjoy makes me feel great and relive times with your moms when they were small.
I am thankful for my Mom and Dad who were always there for us.  We had so many good times together.  To my siblings Joe, Bill, Sammie, Sue, Pat and Jan; what great times we have had at our reunions each year.  I am so thankful that we have stayed close all these years.
To our friends, I am so thankful for you too.  Thank you for all your encouragement and the fun we have had together.  It was always fun.

Please don't be sad.  Remember the good times we had.  I love you all.

We have all lost a truly wonderful lady.  We will miss her bright smile, special humor and kindness.  Marion, remember all the happy times that you and your family shared and may God help you through this very difficult time.

I wish I had a miracle to send your way Marion to help lessen the heart break and pain of losing your soul mate. Our prayers are with you as you go through the next few periods of time and as my Dad once told me after returning from WWII, "This too Will Pass", but the memories will always be there.

We will certainly miss Lois' sweet personality and caring heart.  We enjoyed the time we had with her and Marion square dancing and eating out.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lusk family.  May God comfort you during this difficult time.

We are greatly saddened at losing Lois.  Marion, you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.  She was a sweet soul and we were enriched by knowing you both and by sharing your company over years together in the Two Left Feet Dance Club.

Hers was the house where all the local kids loved to be.  She showed us all such love and affection, and raised beautiful daughters just like her.  I know she'll be missed tremendously.

No words can express your loss. We will miss this lovely lady who always made us feel so special at all the dances and the fun we shared afterwards. God is good and he is taking care of her now. Please know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

It was with deep sadness that I received the news of Lois passing away. I loved her as a cousin and will always remember her as a kind, caring, loving soul. Will miss you Lois. God bless Lois and God bless Marion. I enclosed a photo of Lois with my mom Barbara Lynn Whiteside from the Lynn/Brown reunion in 2007.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Lusk family for their loss of a courageous mother and wife. Lois is finally sharing in God's glorious kingdom.

Lois fought a courageous battle with her cancer and is now at peace with God. God has spoken the words "Well Done, My Good and Faithful Servant" to her and welcomes her to join Him for eternity. May her family find peace and good memories of her life.

I will always cherish the memories of Lois and our times dancing, playing cards, eating out at our favorite restaurant and keeping each other up on the activities of our grandchildren.  What a lucky day for me that we decided to go to Square Dance lessons. I met a kind and  loving  friend that day. She will be missed by me, Larry and many others but most of all by you, Marion, and your daughters. Time, I hope, helps lessen the pain of your loss.  Our thoughts are with you and all the family. If you need us, we are only a phone call away.
