Lucia Lupkes

On the 21st of December 2020, Lucia Lupkes passed away at the age of 98. Lucia was born on December 26, 1921 in Montgomery, LA to C.C. and Mattie Dyson, and was among ten brothers and sisters. She met the love of her life Hans Lupkes while working at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA and they were married on September 28, 1946. Hans and Lucia remained happily married until Hans’ passing in 2014. Early in their marriage, Hans was relocated several times including Shreveport, Oklahoma City, Levittown, Pa, and Atlanta, before settling in Pasadena in 1974. The couple raised three children during this time, Cyndee, David, and Julie. Lucia raised her 3 children in the Houston area and began to care for her elderly sister, Grace, in 1997. Lucia was ever the caregiver, caring for both her sister and her husband in the twilight years of their lives. In 2014, Lucia lost the love of her life Hans to Alzheimer’s, and tragically lost her Daughter-in-law Debbie Lupkes and son David Lupkes, both to cancer over the next two years. Lucia enjoyed life over the next few years; however, began a significant decline over the past year and her body began to tire. Then on the evening of December 21st, just as the Christmas star shown in the night sky, as it had called the wise men to meet the newborn king, Christ Jesus called Lucia home guided by the Christmas Star. In life she was a strong Christian woman, a wonderful caregiving volunteer and worked selflessly at her church, and was an inspiration to everyone. She loved with a full heart and made sure everyone had a full stomach and no one went hungry.

Lucia was preceded in death by her husband Hans, son David and Daughter in-law Debbie and granddaughter Denee Lupkes. She is survived by her daughters Cyndee Wilkerson and husband Gary of LaPorte, TX, and Julie Bailey and husband Michael of Cypress, TX. Her six grandchildren Greg Wilkerson (wife Robin), Shannon Hoover (husband Jim), Cheryl Patrick (husband Kai), Jeremy Lupkes (wife Fatima), Amanda Golden (Chad Thayer), Travis Golden (wife Lauren), as well as her great grandchildren, Austin Patrick, Haley Wilkerson, Tyler Patrick, Brady Wilkerson, Jordan Lupkes, Jase Hoover, Lindsey Golden, Isabel Lupkes, and Madeline Golden.
