She was born February 2, 1931 in the gulf side city of Tampico, Mexico to Valentino and Juanita (Castillo) Resendiz. She married Pedro Ahumada 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1987.
Wella was a vibrant and charming woman. She enjoyed making conversation with others and catching up with friends and family. She was very independent and although she never drove, she managed to make her way around town to see friends and run errands. She was resourceful and loving, she was affectionately known by her nickname for years as a shortened version of “Abuela”; as she radiated this feeling of comfort and happiness, much like a grandmother does. Wella loved music, especially Mariachis and songs that reminded her of when she was young—although she very much enjoyed newer songs as well. She worked for many years as a tailor; using her eye for detail to alter clothing and other garments for special occasions.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Pedro Ahumada, her parents Valentino Resendiz and Juanita Resendiz, as well as one brother Benjamin Resendiz.
She is survived by her children Maria (Danny) Canales, Sylvia Robinette, Pedro “Pete” Ahumada and Elsa Villarreal; three grandchildren Claudia Canales, Lori Canales, and Larry Robinette; and two great grandchildren Zachary Flores and Natalie Peters. Also surviving are her brother Jose Resendiz, numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. A special thanks to Rosa Roque Rodriguez for the loving care she gave Wella in her final months.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Forest Park East Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor and friend Robert Cols officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Park East Cemetery.
