Margarett Dianne Key entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 16, 2026, at the age of 77, after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Though her family grieves her loss, they rejoice in knowing that her faith has brought her into God’s presence and that she is at peace.
Margarett was born on November 28, 1948, in Gurdon, Arkansas, to Vernon Dave and Sybil Gogle Key. She later grew up in League City, Texas, where she attended school.
Margarett was blessed with three children whom she loved deeply. She shared two children, Tammy and Lanier, with Duane Young, and later welcomed her daughter Jacquelyn during her marriage to Jack Caldwell. Her children were among her greatest joys, but her heart grew larger with the arrival of each grandchild.
She spent years serving as a postal carrier with the United States Postal Service before retiring. Margarett was known as a dependable, faithful person who showed up and did what needed to be done.
More than anything, Margarett will be remembered for the way she loved. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose presence brought comfort and stability to those around her. Even on days when her health made life difficult, she rarely complained. Instead, she remained grateful for her blessings and focused on caring for the people she loved. Her family knew they could count on her prayers, her encouragement, and her unwavering support.
Margarett's faith in Christ was the anchor of her life. Through every hardship she faced, she trusted God and leaned on His strength. The Bible verse she quoted most often and carried close to her heart was Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Those words are a testimony to the life she lived.
She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her children, Lanier Young, Tammy Lippert, and her husband, David; and Jacquelyn Guerrero and her husband, Andrew. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Evan, Dustin, Zach, Anna, Colin, Sarah, Jacob, Cameron, Kaiden, Micah, and Taylor; her brothers, Melvin and Mark; her sister-in-law, Diane; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Sybil Key; her sister, Maureen; and her sister-in-law, Suzie.
Her children would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Maria Gomez for her many years of loving care. Maria became much more than a caregiver; she became family. Thank you, Maria, for adopting our mother as your own "Mama" and for the compassion and friendship you have shown her over the years.
A graveside service celebrating Margarett's life will be held on June 26, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.
A reception, open to all, will follow from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 815 S. Broadway, La Porte, Texas 77536
While her family will miss her deeply, they take comfort in the legacy she leaves behind of faith, gratitude, resilience, and unconditional love. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will remain in our hearts.
