

Mary Ann Shoemaker-Sletner, 69, of Houston, Texas, passed away on September 30, 2015. She was born in McAllen, Texas on May 14, 1946 to Grover Bernice Shoemaker and Thelma Rene Ply-Smith. Mary Ann attended Refugio High School and played in the marching band. She was previously married to Donald F. Sletner for 27 years. Mary Ann had a career in nursing caring for everyone from newborns to elderly patients; working in various places throughout her career. She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America, Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League, and Toastmasters International. Mary Ann had a passion for church, crocheting, gardening, cooking, music, and spending time with his friends, family, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Grover Bernice Shoemaker; mother, Thelma Rene Ply-Smith; son, David Dean Sletner; and son, Donald Ray Sletner. She is survived by her daughter, Denille Rene Abrego and husband Eric; granddaughters Shelby, Samantha, and Sophia Abrego; and many other loving family members and friends. A visitation will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home on Thursday, October 08, 2015 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas.
